Verse 15 of 16

No Finding Without the Giver's Grace

bin gur daatay ko-ay na paa-ay.
Without the Guru, the Giver, no one finds the Lord,
lakh kotee jay karam kamaa-ay.
though one may make hundreds of thousands and millions of attempts.
gur kirpaa tay ghat antar vasi-aa sabday sach saalaahaa hay. ||15||
By Guru's Grace, He dwells deep within the heart; through the Shabad, praise the True Lord. ||15||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Without the Guru, the Giver, no one finds the One, even after a million tries.

By the Guru's grace the One comes to live deep in your heart, and through the Word you praise what is true.

The One cannot be seized by force, only welcomed by grace.
The deeper layer

Effort alone cannot seize the divine; grace reveals what is already within. Bin gur daatay — the Guru is the Giver who opens the way.

A Question to Sit With

When has letting go worked better than trying harder?
