Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 116
Verse 6 of 16

Why Run Outside for What Is Within

sabh ras dayhee andar paa-ay.
He placed all the flavors within the body.
virlay ka-o gur sabad bujhaa-ay.
How rare are those who understand, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
andar khojay sabad saalaahay baahar kaahay jaahaa hay. ||6||
So search within yourself, and praise the Shabad. Why run around outside your self? ||6||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Every good taste of life was set inside you from the very start.

So look within, and treasure the Word you find there. Why go running everywhere outside for what is already home?

What you are chasing outside is already waiting inside you.
The deeper layer

The richness is inside. Andar khojay — search within, and praise the Word you find there. Baahar kaahay jaahaa — why go outside? Home is where the search ends.

A Question to Sit With

When have you searched far for something that was close all along?
