O Nanak, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell deep within the heart; through the Guru's Teachings, one is united in His Union. ||16||3||17||

In plain words

The One stays free and clear, even while everything else gets tangled in its own affairs.

By the Guru's grace we begin to understand. Nanak says, as the Naam comes to live in the heart, the Guru's teaching draws us into the One.

The One stays free and clear, and by grace draws the tangled heart home.
The deeper layer

The One stays free and clear, while everyone else gets tangled up in busy lives.

Aap niraalam: the One is untouched and unattached. Hor dhandhai lo-ee: everyone else is caught up in chores and worries. Think of a calm lifeguard watching a crowded, splashing pool. The lifeguard sees everything but is not caught in the chaos.

Gur parsaadee boojhai ko-ee: by the Guru's grace, someone comes to understand this.

Then comes Nanak's closing line: naam vasai ghat antar, the Name comes to live deep in the heart. Through the Guru's teaching, one is joined with the One. This ends the Solha, a long song of sixteen verses.

A Question to Sit With
