Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 121
Verse 12 of 16

Clearing the Greed That Clouds the Heart

antar lobh man mailai mal laa-ay.
With greed within them, their minds are filthy, and they spread filth around.
mailay karam karay dukh paa-ay.
They do filthy deeds, and suffer in pain.
koorho koorh karay vaapaaraa koorh bol dukh paa-idaa. ||12||
They deal in falsehood, and nothing but falsehood; telling lies, they suffer in pain. ||12||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When greed takes over, a heart clouds up and can cloud the people around it too.

Living from what is untrue keeps a person tangled and uneasy, until honesty clears the air again.

Greed clouds a heart, and honesty clears the air again.
The deeper layer

Greed inside clouds the mind, and the cloud spreads to what a person does and says. Dealing in falsehood brings unease, and honesty clears the air.

A Question to Sit With

What is something honest you can do to clear the air when things feel off?
