A Treasure Beyond the Scales

naam amolak agam apaaraa.
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is priceless, inaccessible and infinite.
naa ko ho-aa tolanhaaraa.
No one can weigh it.
aapay tolay tol tolaa-ay gur sabdee mayl tolaa-i-aa. ||9||
You Yourself weigh, and estimate all; through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, You unite, when the weight is perfect. ||9||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Name is priceless, beyond reach, without end. No one can put it on a scale.

You alone weigh all things — and through the Guru's Word, when the balance is just right, You gather us in.

The most priceless things cannot be put on any scale.
The deeper layer

The Naam is amolak (priceless) and cannot be weighed by anyone but the One. Union comes through the Shabad when the weight is perfect (tol) — a lovely image of grace arriving at exactly the right measure.

A Question to Sit With

What is something precious in your life that could never be measured or weighed?
