Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 139
Verse 7 of 16

All Within the One Flow

ਹੁਕਮੇ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਨਰਕਾ ॥
hukmay muktee hukmay narkaa.
By the Hukam of the Lord's Command, one is liberated, and by His Hukam, one falls into hell.
ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸੈਸਾਰੀ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਭਗਤਾ ॥
hukam saisaaree hukmay bhagtaa.
By His Hukam, one is worldly, and by His Hukam, one is a devotee.
ਹੁਕਮੇ ਹੋਛਾ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਦਾਨਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਧੜਾ ॥੭॥
hukmay hochhaa hukmay daanaa doojaa naahee avar Dharhaa. ||7||
By His Hukam, one is shallow, and by His Hukam, one is wise. There is no other side except His. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whether a heart is free or caught, it is all moving within the one flow.

Whether someone is lost in the surface or turned toward the One, it unfolds within that same flow.

Shallow or wise, it is all the one flow; there is no other side at all.

Free or stuck, everyone is being carried by the same great current.
The deeper layer

Every pair of opposites sits under Hukam, the one flow: free and stuck (mukti and narak), worldly and devoted, shallow and wise. 'Doojaa naahee avar dharhaa': there is no other side.

A Question to Sit With

Does it change anything to know even the hard parts are inside the flow?
