Sikhism·Raag Maaroo·Shabad 142
Verse 13 of 16

The Company I Long For

tin kee Dhoorh maaNgai man mayraa.
My mind longs for the dust of the feet of those
jin visrahi naahee kaahoo bayraa.
who never forget the Lord.
tin kai sang param pad paa-ee sadaa sangee har naalkaa. ||13||
Associating with them, I obtain the supreme status; the Lord, my Companion, is always with me. ||13||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My heart longs to sit low among those

who never once let the One slip from mind.

In their company the highest thing is found, and the One, my truest Companion, is always right there with me.

The company you long for tells you who you are becoming.
The deeper layer

'Tin kee dhoorh maangai man mayraa': my mind longs for the dust of the feet of those who remember. 'Sadaa sangee har naalkaa' (the ever-present Companion) is the reward: closeness, not status.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the people you feel better simply for being around?
