The battle-drum beats in the sky of the mind; aim is taken, and the wound is inflicted.

khayt jo maaNdi-o soormaa ab joojhan ko daa-o. ||1||
The spiritual warriors enter the field of battle; now is the time to fight! ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The battle-drum beats in the sky of the mind, and the arrow hits its mark.

The brave warrior has stepped onto the field. Now is the time to fight!

There comes a moment to stand up bravely for what is right.
The deeper layer

'Gagan damaamaa baaji-o' — the battle-drum sounds in the sky of the mind, and 'pari-o neesaanai ghaa-o' — the target is struck. 'Khayt jo maaNdi-o soormaa' — the spiritual warrior takes the field; 'ab joojhan ko daa-o' — now is the moment to give it everything. Maaroo's battle imagery is turned entirely inward: the field is the heart, the fight is for goodness and truth.

A Question to Sit With

What is something good or true that you feel called to stand up for?
