In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, His humble servants are liberated; O Nanak, they are redeemed and enraptured by the Lord's Glance of Grace. ||5||2||18||

In plain words

When the Master cuts someone's bonds, the Naam of the One comes and settles in their heart.

In the Sangat, the Guru's people come free. Nanak says, they are lit up and glad, held in the One's kind gaze of grace.

When the One cuts the knots, the heart comes free.
The deeper layer

Freedom is a gift. The One cuts the knots.

Kaatay bandhan thaakur jaa kay — when the Master cuts a person's bonds, har har naam basi-o jee-a taa kai — the Name comes to live in their heart. The Name is the One's presence, kept close.

Saadhsang is the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. That is where people come free. Nadar means the kind look of grace. Under that look, people light up.

Think of a knotted necklace you have picked at for an hour. Then a grown-up gently takes it, and the knot slips loose. Our trying matters, but grace does the final untying.

A Question to Sit With

What knot inside you would you love to have loosened?
