Please bless me with Your Mercy, that I may meditate on Your Name alone. ||3||

Be kind to me in this one thing:
let me keep just Your Name close, and nothing scattered.
Ask for one thing worth keeping, and keep it close.
One single, simple wish.
Apnay ka-o kirpaa karee-ahu — please be kind to me, as one of Your own. Ik naam dhi-aa-ee — so that I may think of the Name alone. The Name is the One's presence, held in the heart.
It asks for one thing, not many. Think of doing homework with the TV on, your phone buzzing, and friends texting. Your mind jumps everywhere. This prayer asks for one quiet desk, with only one thing on it. It asks for mercy enough to keep only the Name.
A Question to Sit With
If you could ask for just one thing, what would it be?
