Weeping and wailing, he does not receive them; he searches here and there, and grows weary.

In plain words

Grabbing and fretting after things, searching high and low, just wears a person out. The peace never comes that way.

When wanting, anger, and pride take the wheel, I end up clinging to what cannot hold me. There is a gentler way.

Grabbing and fretting only wears you out; peace comes another way.
The deeper layer

Chasing and fretting wears a person out.

Karan palaav karay nahee paavai — crying and pleading, a person still does not get what they want. It ut dhoodhat thaak paray — searching here and there, they get tired and drop.

Three inner pulls are named: kaam, wanting; krodh, anger; and ahankaar, pride. When they take over, the heart clings to koorh kutamb, ties that cannot last forever.

Think of a dog chasing its own tail. It spins and spins, and only gets dizzy.

A Question to Sit With

When has chasing something hard left you more tired than happy?
