Verse 5 of 16

When Truth Was Everyone's First Language

satjug saach kahai sabh ko-ee.
In the Golden Age of Truth, everyone spoke the Truth.
sach vartai saachaa so-ee.
Truth was pervasive - the Lord was Truth.
man mukh saach bharam bha-o bhanjan gurmukh saach sakhaa-ee hay. ||5||
With Truth in their minds and mouths, mortals were rid of doubt and fear. Truth was the friend of the Gurmukhs. ||5||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In that golden time, truth was on everyone's lips.

Truth filled the world, and the One was that very Truth.

With truth in their hearts and their words, people had no room for doubt or fear; truth itself was their good friend.

When truth fills both heart and words, doubt and fear find no room.
The deeper layer

In the Golden Age, truth in mind and mouth clears away doubt and fear. Truth (sach) becomes a friend, the steadiest thing a person can lean on.

A Question to Sit With

How does it feel when your inside truth and your outside words match?
