Before Anything, the One

maaroo mehlaa 1.
Maaroo, First Mehl:
arbad narbad DhunDhookaaraa.
For endless eons, there was only utter darkness.
Dharan na gagnaa hukam apaaraa.
There was no earth or sky; there was only the infinite Command of His Hukam.
There was no day or night, no moon or sun; God sat in primal, profound Samaadhi. ||1||

In plain words

Imagine a time so long ago that there was no time at all, only deep, endless quiet.

There was no earth and no sky, only the One's own way of being, stretching on forever.

No day, no night, no sun, no moon, just the One, resting in the deepest stillness.

Before there was anything at all, there was the One.
The deeper layer

'Arbad narbad dhundhukaaraa': for countless ages there was only formless quiet, and the One rested in 'sunn samaadhi', the primal trance. Everything begins here, in wonder: a picture of the peace before all things.

A Question to Sit With

What do you imagine when you try to picture 'before everything'?
