Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One's wondrous play is everywhere. What a wonder, what a marvel!
Turning to the Guru, I have come to know the Highest One, the Great Lord.
All my wrongs and faults are washed away by the mark of the Word.
In the Sangat, a person is lifted up and set free.
Remembering, remembering the Great Giver, I enjoy every comfort and joy.
Under the shade of the One's kindness, I have become known through the world.
The One forgave me and joined me to the One. I give myself to the One forever.
Nanak says: as it pleased my Master, my Master blended me in.
In the Sangat the heaviness washes off, and forgiveness comes as a welcome home.
Sabho vartai chalat: the One's wondrous play runs through everything. Lathay sabh vikaar sabad neesaani-aa: wrongs wash away by the mark of the Word. Saadhoo sang udhaar: in the Sangat, the company of the holy, a person is lifted and freed.
This is the one pauri of the Fifth Mehl, Guru Arjan, in the Vaar, marked pa-orhee navee, "a new pauri." Aapay bakhas milaa-ay: the One forgives and draws a person close. Grace here is an embrace, never a wage.
Who are the people who leave you lighter and better after you have been with them?
