This wine, and any other polluted water which mixes with the Ganges, is not separate from it. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Even if wine is made from the water of the Ganges, O saints, do not drink it.

But that wine, or any other unclean water that flows into the Ganges, is no longer separate from the river.

Nothing is too lowly to be made holy by what it joins.
The deeper layer

Whatever flows into the holy river becomes the river.

Sursaree, the Ganges, was held to be the most sacred river. Ravidas takes the old rules about what is clean and turns them around. Wine made from its water, the saints will not drink. Yet any water that flows into the Ganges becomes one with it. Joined to the holy, nothing stays "low." That quietly undoes the idea that some people are unclean from birth.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever seen something plain become special because of what it became part of?
