In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

"How can I know what makes You glad?" my heart wonders.

There's such a deep thirst in me just to see You and be near.

Sometimes we deeply want to please someone we love, and long just to be near them.
The deeper layer

This opens the Guru Arjan (Mehl 5) block. The rahao is a humble, searching question: "how can I know what pleases You? Within my mind is such a great thirst for the sight of You." It's the honest longing of someone who wants to please the one they love but isn't sure how — a feeling every child knows. For a child: sometimes we deeply want to please someone we love, and long just to be near them.

A Question to Sit With

Who do you most want to make glad — and how do you show your love to them?
