Verse 2 of 5

You Don't Have to Earn Being Loved

so-ee gi-aanee so-ee jan tayraa jis oopar ruch aavai.
He alone is a spiritual teacher, and he alone is Your humble servant, to whom You have given Your approval.
kirpaa karahu jis purakh biDhaatay so sadaa sadaa tuDh Dhi-aavai. ||1||
He alone meditates on You forever and ever, O Primal Lord, O Architect of Destiny, unto whom You grant Your Grace. ||1||

In plain words

The ones who please the One are simply those it has drawn close with kindness.

They remember it always — and even that remembering is a gift given to them.

You don't have to earn being loved — the One draws us close with kindness first.
The deeper layer

The verse answers the question gently: you can't force your way into pleasing the One; those who do are the ones "to whom You have given Your approval," "unto whom You grant Your Grace." Even the ability to remember is grace-given. It quietly relieves the anxious striver: you're already loved; you don't have to earn it. For a child: you don't have to earn being loved — those who please the One are simply the ones it has drawn close with kindness.

A Question to Sit With

How does it feel to know you're loved first, before you've done anything to earn it?
