Rare Luck: a Heart Sewn Close to the Good

ਕੋਈ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਆਪਨ ਕੀਤ ॥
ko-ee virlaa aapan keet.
How rare is that one whom the Lord makes His own,
ਸੰਗਿ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤ ॥
sang charan kamal man seet.
and whose mind is sewn into the Lord's Lotus Feet.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਦੀਤ ॥੧॥

Granting His Grace, the Lord blesses him with His Praise. ||1||

In plain words

It's a rare and lucky thing when a heart is truly stitched close to the good.

Kindness is what sews it there and fills it with quiet praise.

It's a rare and lucky thing to have your heart sewn close to the good, so it doesn't drift away.
The deeper layer

The verse: "how rare is that one whom the Lord makes His own, and whose mind is sewn into the Lord's Lotus Feet." A beautiful image — a heart stitched close to the good, so it can't drift away — and it's grace that does the sewing. For a child: it's a rare and lucky thing to have your heart sewn close to the good, so it doesn't drift.

A Question to Sit With

What helps keep your heart 'sewn close' to what's good?
