Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

"Please, keep me safe — I have no other help but You."

And remembering the good, I am saved and held.

"Please keep me safe — I have no other help but You" is a true and trusting prayer, and it is answered.
The deeper layer

This one says: "please keep me safe, I have no other help" is a true prayer, and it is answered.

This closes the ashtapadee, a hymn of eight verses, and the first set of six such hymns. It ends in a heartfelt plea: raakh raakh raakh parabh mayray — "save me, save me, save me, O my God."

Then: "Nanak, I have no other support; the True Guru has saved me." The prayer is said three times, the way a child calls out when scared. Think of a little one in the dark calling "Mum! Mum! Mum!" and hearing footsteps coming. The trust is simple, and it is answered.

A Question to Sit With

When you most need help, who do you turn to and trust?
