Raag Raamkalee
Commentary

Raag Raamkalee, Shabad, Mehl 5 (Guru Arjan)

A heart in tune with what is real is a heart at ease.

The Arc

A gentle, consoling shabad. The rahau (Pauri0) sounds its glad refrain — 'my Guru is perfect' — twice for love. The couplets that follow keep the register homely and warm: worship the One who lasts (Pauri1), sleep sound with a hunger for the Name (Pauri2), enjoy a natural, unforced joy (Pauri3), and rest safe day and night (Pauri4).

Key Vocabulary

Gur pooraa — the perfect Guru. Rog kooraa — illness and falseness, dissolving together. Sahj anand — the joy of natural ease. Raakhaa ho-aa aap — the One becomes your keeper.

Themes and Cross-Connections

The ordinary images (peaceful sleep, unforced joy) ground big ideas in a child's daily life. Sahaj — natural ease — is the project's touchstone for a heart that has stopped fighting its own nature.

For Raag Raamkalee

The shabad ends not with warning but with a promise of safety — Raamkalee's settled, protective warmth.
