Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Lord, I do not know what will become of me.

I am foolish and know so little, so I come into Your shelter, God. Please be kind, and keep my honor and my self-respect safe.

Not knowing the road, I can still step into a shelter that holds me.
The deeper layer

When we don't know what's ahead, we can come to the One and ask to be kept safe.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the whole song, and every verse comes back to it.

Na jaanaa haray mayree kavan gatay means "I do not know, Lord, what will become of me." Then comes ham moorakh agi-aan, which means "I am foolish and do not know." It is honest humility, not putting yourself down. It is like a new student saying, "I'm still learning. Can you help me?" That takes courage, and it opens the door.

Saran means shelter, a safe place. Yogis often looked for shelter in a quiet cave. Here the shelter is the One. The prayer asks the One to keep it safe and to hold its honor.

A Question to Sit With

When you do not know what comes next, where do you feel safe?
