The Treasure That Keeps You Safe

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧੧॥
naam niDhaan paa-i-aa vadbhaagee naanak narak na jaa-ee. ||11||
I have obtained the treasure of the Naam, by great good fortune; O Nanak, I shall not fall into hell. ||11||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

By great good fortune, I have found the treasure of the Naam.

Nanak says: I will not fall into narak, the dark place of suffering.

The treasure of the Naam keeps you from falling into the dark.
The deeper layer

Naam nidhaan, the Naam as buried treasure, is found vadbhaagee, by great fortune: grace received, not a prize earned. Narak is hell, the dark place of suffering, and the one holding this treasure does not fall into it.

A Question to Sit With

What is something precious to you that also makes you feel safe?
