Never to Grieve Again

All my desires are fulfilled, meeting with the Perfect True Guru.

Prays Nanak, God has blended me with Himself; I shall never suffer pain or sorrow again. ||4||3||

In plain words

The One protects those who love the One, holding them close at the One's feet.

All day and all night they remember their One; they keep the one Naam in mind.

Remembering that One, they cross the frightening world-ocean, and their coming and going ends.

Singing the One's praise, they have lasting peace and joy, and the flow of life the One sends tastes sweet to them.

Every wish is fulfilled and every hope met, meeting the perfect True Guru.

Nanak prays: the One has joined me to the One's own self; I will never suffer pain or sorrow again.

When you stop fighting the flow of life, even its turns begin to taste sweet.
The deeper layer

Aath pahar — all eight watches, the whole day and night: continuous remembrance. Meethaa bhaanaa — the divine Will (Hukam, the flow of existence) becomes sweet, no longer resisted. The closing fir naahee dookh visoori-aa — "never to grieve again" — is the Chhant's promise of a settled heart that has stopped being tossed by loss.

A Question to Sit With

Is there something you have been resisting that might feel lighter if you let it flow?
