In the cool autumn, in the months of Assu and Katik, I am thirsty for the One.
I wander, searching for a glimpse: when will I meet my Beloved, the treasure of goodness?
Without my dear Husband there is no peace, and my necklaces and bracelets are worth nothing.
Beautiful, wise, clever and knowing — still, without breath, a body is only a body.
I look here and there, in all ten directions; my mind is so thirsty to meet the One.
Nanak prays: show Your kindness, my One, treasure of goodness, and join me with You.
Sarad rut — autumn, cool and clear, yet still a season of searching. The soul-bride finds her adornments meaningless without the Beloved (haar kangan): outer beauty is empty without inner presence, like a body without breath. Dah dis — the ten directions; the searching gaze. No despair at the end: only the plea dhaar kirpaa — "shower kindness."
What matters so much that everything feels emptier without it?
