Verse 8 of 24

Drawn Close by Love

jo bhaanay say mayli-aa vichhorhay bhee aap.
Those who are pleasing to God are united with Him; He separates others from Himself.
naanak parabh sarnaagatee jaa kaa vad partaap. ||2||
Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of God; His greatness is glorious! ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Those who please the One are joined with the One; others the One keeps apart.

Nanak says: I have come to the One's shelter; the One's greatness is wonderful.

Meeting and parting are in the One's hands, so take shelter with the One.
The deeper layer

Jo bhaanay say mayli-aa — "those pleasing to the One are united." Meeting and being apart both lie in the One's hands. Sarnaagatee — the answer is simply to take refuge.

A Question to Sit With
