In plain words

For thirty-six ages there was only deep darkness. Then the One revealed itself.

The One made the whole universe, and the One gave it understanding.

The One made the holy books, the Simritees and Shaastras, and keeps the count of right and wrong.

Only the one the One helps to understand will understand, and be content with the True Word.

The One is everywhere. The One forgives, and joins us with the One.

Out of the longest dark, the One shone, and the same One lights understanding in you.
The deeper layer

Creation rises from the void: thirty-six ages of darkness before the One reveals itself, an image Gurbani develops at length elsewhere. The One makes the universe, gives it understanding, and even makes the scriptures that sort virtue and vice. Understanding stays inside grace, since only the one the One inspires understands, and it all comes home in forgiveness and union.
