Verse 5 of 74

Waaho! True King, True Name

ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਚੇ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਤੂ ਸਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
vaahu vaahu sachay paatisaah too sachee naa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Waaho! Waaho! Hail, hail, O True King! True is Your Name. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Waaho! Waaho! How wonderful, how wonderful! O True King, Your Naam is true.

Wonder is the first and simplest praise of the True King.
The deeper layer

Waaho is not a name but a cry of awe, the same root as the Wahe in Waheguru, the breath of wonder at moving from darkness to light. Sachee naaee, the true Name, is what lasts. Praise overflows here in a single held note.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, sung as the refrain of the Vaar's Pauris.

A Question to Sit With

What last made you say wow out loud?
