Meditation, austerity and everything come through belief in the Lord's Name. All other actions are useless.

naanak mani-aa mannee-ai bujhee-ai gur parsaad. ||2||
O Nanak, believe in the One who is worth believing in. By Guru's Grace, he is realized. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Meditation, hard practice, everything comes through trusting the Naam. All other doings are empty.

Nanak says: trust the One who is worth trusting. By the Guru's grace, the One is understood.

Line yourself up inwardly with the One, and everything else falls into place.
The deeper layer

Meditation and hard practice all flow from mannai, trusting the Naam: an inner alignment, not mere agreement. Without it, all other actions are empty. The One worth trusting is understood by grace.

This is the first of the Vaar's Second Mehl (Guru Angad) shaloks, and a run of his shaloks follows soon after.

A Question to Sit With

What is the one thing that, when you get it right, makes other things easier?
