Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The Maker joined your body and your soul, pictured as a swan, from the very start.
The One is hidden in everything, and shows itself to the one turned toward the Guru.
Singing the One's praises, speaking them, you blend into that goodness.
The Guru's Word is true, and through it you are joined with the True One.
The One is everything, and the One gives all greatness.
The One joined your body and soul, and the One is hidden inside everything.
Kaa-i-aa hans means "the body and the swan." The swan is a picture of the soul. In old Indian poems, the swan was graceful and pure and could tell good from bad. The Maker joined your soul to your body from the very start.
Sabh meh gupat varatdaa means "hidden, yet present in everyone." A gurmukh, someone turned toward the Guru, comes to see it. Think of the WiFi in your house. You cannot see it, but it is in every room, and the right device picks it up.
Singing the One's praises, a person blends into that goodness. Sachee baanee means the true Baani, the Guru's Word. It joins you with the True One. The verse ends on the note that runs through this whole Vaar, this long poem: the One is everything, and the One gives all greatness.
When do you feel most like your body and your inner self are working as one?
