Third Mehl:

naa kichh aasaa hath hai kay-o niraasaa ho-ay.
Nothing is in the hands of hope. How can one become free of hope?

What can this poor being do? The Lord Himself creates confusion. ||2||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Nothing is held in the hands of hoping. How can anyone become free of hope?
What can a poor creature do? The One makes the confusion.
Hoping holds nothing in its hands, and the tangle lies with the One.
Hoping holds nothing in its hands, and freedom from it cannot be won by sheer effort. The confusion itself lies with the One, so the tangle is not yours alone to undo. The same One who sets the tangle going is the One who can untangle it, and the empty hands of aasaa can become a doorway to trust.
This is the second Third Mehl shalok of the pair on hope.
A Question to Sit With
When has straining harder made a tangle worse instead of better?
