In plain words

Lost in doubt, I wandered the whole world. I searched and searched until I was worn out.

The Beloved did not give me peace. What could I do to make it come?

By the Guru's grace, keep the One in mind, and hold the One close inside your heart.

Nanak says: sitting in her own home, she found her Beloved, when the Creator showed kindness.

You can run the whole world over for peace and find it, finally, sitting still inside yourself.
The deeper layer

The outward search fails and the inward turn succeeds, a pattern the Vaar returns to again and again. The Beloved is found sitting in one's own home (ghar baithi-aa), not at any shrine or far-off place. The soul-bride finding her Beloved is a picture of the heart finding the One, and the finding itself is grace, when the Creator shows kindness.

A Question to Sit With

What have you searched everywhere for that was closer than you thought?
