Those who are blessed by their spiritual teacher are not even scratched. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Farid says: this world is beautiful, but inside it is a garden full of thorns.

Those whom their spiritual guide has blessed are not even scratched.

The world is beautiful and has thorns — a good guide helps you move through it unscratched.
The deeper layer

The world is lovely and thorny at once. This is honest, not world-hating, and a good guide (peer) teaches you to walk through it unscratched.

These are Guru Arjan's words in the voice of Sheikh Farid, the Sufi saint, offered in tribute, as with the shaloks in Kabir's voice.

A Question to Sit With

When has a beautiful-looking thing had a hidden thorn?
