To ask for anything other than You is the worst of all sorrows.
Give me the Naam and make me content, so the hunger of my mind is satisfied.
The Guru has made the woods and meadows green again. Nanak says: is it any wonder the Guru does the same for people?
The Naam satisfies a hunger that more things cannot.
Contentment (santokh) set against endless wanting. The image is agricultural and hopeful: the Guru greens the woods and meadows — and if barren land can be renewed, so can a tired human heart. Asking for anything other than the One is named as the deepest kind of restlessness.
A Question to Sit With
What is something you wanted badly, that did not fill you up the way you expected?
