Burning Off What Traps You

Joining the two channels of the breath, I have lit the furnace, and I drink in the supreme, sublime essence.

I have burnt both sexual desire and anger, and I have been emancipated from the world. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I joined the two channels of the breath and lit the furnace, and I drink this rich, sweet essence.

I burned away both strong wanting and anger, and I am set free from the world's hold.

When craving and anger lose their grip, you finally feel free.
The deeper layer

Joining the breath (a yogic image) becomes, here, simply gathering and focusing oneself. In that focus, craving and anger burn off. 'Freed from the world' (chhoot ga-ee sansaaree) does not mean hating the world — it means being released from the grip of what entangles.

A Question to Sit With

When has letting go of anger made you feel lighter?
