A Joy That Never Wears Off

The light of spiritual wisdom enlightens me; meeting with the Guru, the True Guru, I have obtained this understanding.
ਦਾਸੁ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਤਾਸੁ ਮਦ ਮਾਤਾ ਉਚਕਿ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥੨॥
daas kabeer taas mad maataa uchak na kabhoo jaa-ee. ||3||2||
Slave Kabir is intoxicated with that wine, which never wears off. ||3||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The light of wisdom shines out. Meeting the Guru, the True Guru, I came to understand.

Kabir says: I, Your servant, am full of this wine, and it never wears off.

The best kind of happiness is the kind that does not wear off.
The deeper layer

The light of wisdom breaks open (pargat pargaas gian) when the Guru's teaching lands. A 'wine that never wears off' is a picture of an awakened state that does not lapse.

Daas, servant, here means glad belonging, not servitude.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that made you happy in a way that lasted, not just for a moment?
