Loyal as a Watchdog

ਹਮ ਕੂਕਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥

I am a dog at Your Court, Lord.
ਭਉਕਹਿ ਆਗੈ ਬਦਨੁ ਪਸਾਰਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bha-ukahi aagai badan pasaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I open my snout and bark before it. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I am a dog at Your court, my Master.

I open my mouth and bark out in front of it.

Faithfulness means staying close and showing up when you are needed.
The deeper layer

A dog at the door is a picture of faithfulness, a favorite image in devotion for loyalty and readiness. The barking is a voice raised close by, ready the moment it is needed. What looks like lowliness is steady love.

A Question to Sit With

What does being loyal look like to you?
