Keeping Watch with Love

I honor and obey the Saints, and punish the wicked; this is my duty as God's police officer.

Day and night, I wash Your feet, Lord; I wave my hair as the chauree, to brush away the flies. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I honor the holy people and stop the ones who do wrong. This is my work as Your guard.

Day and night I wash Your feet, and I wave my own hair like a fan to keep the flies away.

Loving something means gladly doing even the smallest jobs for it.
The deeper layer

The loyal watchman (kutvaaree) honors the good and stands against wrong: a picture of inner discernment. Using your own hair as the ceremonial fan (chauree) is the humblest, most whole-hearted service: nothing is beneath you when it is done out of love.

A Question to Sit With

What small, humble task have you done for someone you love?
