Verse 5 of 9

Wear It Like a Necklace

jih simran tayree gat ho-ay.
Remembering Him in meditation, you shall obtain salvation.
so simran rakh kanth paro-ay.
Wear that meditative remembrance as your necklace.
so simran kar nahee raakh utaar.
Practice that meditative remembrance, and never let it go.
gur parsaadee utreh paar. ||4||
By Guru's Grace, you shall cross over. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Remember the One, and you will be set free.

Wear that remembrance like a necklace at your throat.

Practise it, and never take it off.

By the Guru's grace, you will cross safely over.

Keep the good thing close, like something you would never want to take off.
The deeper layer

Wear remembrance like a necklace at the throat (rakh kanth paro-ay): something precious kept always close. And the crossing over comes by grace (gur-parsaadee), not by force.

A Question to Sit With

What is something good you would like to keep with you all the time?
