O One, put me to work for Your humble servants.
For the saints I carry water, wave the fan and grind the grain. I wash their feet with care, and touch the dust of their feet to my forehead.
The humblest task, done with love, is an honor.
Kaarai laa-ee-ai — “put me to work” — is a prayer to be given seva, service. The chores are ordinary — carrying water, waving a fan, grinding grain. Touching the dust of their feet to the forehead treats the humblest service as an honor. In this raag of renunciates, the path offered is not withdrawal but glad, lowly service.
