In plain words

True Guru, please be kind, and bring me to the One, my King, the Beloved dearer to me than my own breath.

I come as a humble servant and fall at the Guru's feet. The Guru has shown me the Path, the way to the One.

The Guru shows the path home to the One.
The deeper layer

The seeker asks the Guru to bring them close to the One, who is dearer than breath.

Satgur da-i-aa karahu — True Guru, please be kind. Satgur means the True Guru, the true teacher. The One is mayray pareetam paraan — my Beloved, as dear as my own breath of life.

Ham chayree ho-ay lagah gur charnee — I come as a humble helper to the Guru's feet. Sitting at someone's feet means learning from them gladly. It is humility with joy in it. The good teacher does more than describe the way. Jin har parabh maarag panth dikhaa-i-aa — the Guru has shown the maarag panth, the path home to the One.

Think of a friend who walks you to a new school on the first day. They do not just draw you a map. They go with you.

A Question to Sit With

Who has shown you a path you could not see on your own?
