Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O One, Your Naam has become the delight of my mind.

I have no friend but the One. The One is my father, my mother, my closest companion, all at once.

The One can be father, mother, and truest friend, all at once.
The deeper layer

The Name of the One has become what my mind loves most, and the One is my whole family.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Har har naam man bhaa-i-aa — the Name of the One has become dear to my mind. The Naam, or Name, means remembering the One with love.

Mayraa pitaa maataa har sakhaa-i-aa — the One is my father, my mother, my companion. Baylee and sakhaa both mean friend. The One is pictured as a whole family.

Think of a home where someone is always there, to cook, to listen, to laugh with you. The Name holds every role a heart could need.

A Question to Sit With

Who feels like family to you, even beyond your family?
