One who chants the Praises of the Lord is the greatest of the great; the Gurmukh keeps the Lord clasped to his heart.

If one is blessed with high destiny, he meditates on the Lord, who carries him across the terrifying world-ocean. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whoever sings the praise of the One is the greatest of the great. Turning to the Guru, I keep the One held in my heart.

With great good fortune, a person remembers the One,

and the One carries them across the frightening ocean of the world.

Praise held in the heart is a boat that carries you across.
The deeper layer

Har jas is praise, kirtan — named as the greatest of practices. Ur dhaaray: held in the heart. Bhaujal is the world-ocean, the churn of existence, stormy and hard to cross. Paar utaaray means ferried across: the Name is the boat, and grace (vad bhaag) is what sets you in it.

A Question to Sit With

What helps carry you through the hardest stretches of life?
