which purifies the gods and sanctifies the divine beings. As Gurmukh, chant the Word of His Bani, even for an instant. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O saints, speak the kind of words that make even the gods pure and the shining beings holy.

Turning to the Guru, speak the Guru's words, even for a single moment.

Good words spoken even for a moment can brighten everything.
The deeper layer

Even a single moment of the Guru's words makes a heart clean and bright.

This is the rahaa-o, the pause line. It calls the sant, the saints, to gurmukh banee — speech shaped by the Guru. Even khin, a single instant of it, purifies. Words in tune with the One give off light.

A Question to Sit With

What words has someone said to you that you still remember because they lifted you?
