ko-ee karai poojaa ko-ee sir nivaa-ay. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Some people bathe in sacred rivers, and some travel all the way to Mecca.

Some perform worship services, and some bow their heads in prayer.

There are many honest ways people reach for the One.
The deeper layer

People travel and pray in different ways, and the longing underneath is one.

Ko-ee naavai tirath ko-ee haj jaa-ay — some bathe at a tirath, a sacred river place, and some go on haj, the journey to Mecca. Ko-ee karai poojaa ko-ee sir nivaa-ay — some offer poojaa, temple worship, and some bow their heads in prayer.

Hindu and Muslim ways of worship are set side by side here, and both are honored. Think of classmates walking to school by different streets. The routes look different. They are all heading to the same place. The forms differ. The longing is one.

A Question to Sit With

What are the different ways your friends' families connect with the divine?
