ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥
kaho naanak jin hukam pachhaataa.
Says Nanak, one who realizes the Hukam of God's Will,
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਾ ਤਿਨਿ ਭੇਦੁ ਜਾਤਾ ॥੫॥੯॥
parabh saahib kaa tin bhayd jaataa. ||5||9||
knows the secrets of his Lord and Master. ||5||9||

In plain words

Nanak says: whoever knows the One's Will, the way all things flow,

knows the secret of the Master.

You know the One not by the right label, but by sensing the flow that moves through everything.
The deeper layer

Whoever understands the One's Hukam comes to know the One behind every name.

Kaho naanak jin hukam pachhaataa — says Nanak, the one who recognizes the Hukam. Hukam is the One's Will, the way everything moves and works. It is like the flow of a river that carries everything along.

Parabh saahib kaa tin bhayd jaataa — that person knows the bhayd, the secret, of the Master. This knowing is lived, not labeled. It belongs to anyone who feels that current running through everything, whatever name they were raised to use. Think of a tune everyone can hum, in any language. The words change. The tune is the same.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel the "flow" that connects everything?
