There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.
The four Vedas call it out, but you do not take it to heart.
The six Shaastras say the same one thing.
The eighteen Puraanas together speak of the One.
Even so, yogi, you have not grasped the secret.
All the great old books point to the One, but knowing it in your head is not the same as feeling it in your heart.
The verse names the famous old books of India. There are the four Vedas, the oldest holy books. There are the six Shaastras, books of teaching. And there are the eighteen Puraanas, books of ancient stories. All of them are called as witnesses, and all of them say the same thing: there is One.
The verse speaks gently to a yogi, someone who trains the body and mind to find the One. Taa bhee jogee bhayd na lahi-aa means "even so, yogi, you have not found the secret."
The point is kind. You can know a thing with your mind and still not let it land in your heart. It is like knowing every rule of swimming from a book, but never getting into the water.
What's something you "know" but haven't quite let sink in yet?
