Verse 2 of 5

Let The Anger Go

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਬੇਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ॥
pandit bayd beechaar pandit.
O Pandit, O religious scholar, contemplate the Vedas.
ਮਨ ਕਾ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
man kaa kroDh nivaar pandit. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Eradicate anger from your mind, O Pandit. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O Pandit, you who study, think deeply about the Vedas.

O Pandit, clear the anger out of your mind.

Wisdom needs a calm mind to land in.
The deeper layer

Study goes deep only when anger is cleared out of the mind.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. It is spoken to the pandit, the learned scholar, but the counsel is for anyone: study stays on the surface while the mind is hot. Clearing anger makes space for what you read to sink in.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you cool down when anger rises?
