Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 4
Verse 4 of 5

When I Meet the Seekers, I Sing

ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਅਰੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਪੀਰ ਪੁਰਸ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ॥
siDh saaDhik ar jogee jangam peer puras bahutayray.
There are so many Siddhas, seekers, Yogis, wandering pilgrims, spiritual teachers and good people.
ਜੇ ਤਿਨ ਮਿਲਾ ਤ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਆਖਾ ਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਸੇਵ ਕਰੇ ॥੩॥
jay tin milaa ta keerat aakhaa taa man sayv karay. ||3||
If I meet them, I chant the Lord's Praises, and then, my mind serves Him. ||3||

In plain words

The world is full of seekers and holy people: yogis, pilgrims, teachers, and good souls of every kind.

Whenever I meet them, I sing the One's praises, and then my heart turns to loving service.

Meeting good and searching people is a chance to praise, not to compete.
The deeper layer

Meeting holy people is a chance to praise the One.

SiDh saaDhik ar jogee jangam — the verse names all kinds of holy people with real respect. Siddhas are yogis said to have special powers. Seekers are people still searching. Yogis follow the path of stillness, and jangam are wandering pilgrims. There are teachers and good people too.

Guru Nanak does not compete with any of them. When he meets them, keerat aakhaa: he sings the One's praise. Then his mind turns to sayv, loving service.

It is like meeting great musicians and wanting to join the song, not win a contest. Good company becomes a chance for praise, not rivalry.

A Question to Sit With

Who do you know whose goodness makes you want to be better?
