The Anchor Of The Devoted

har bhagtan ko naam aDhaar.
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the anchor and support of the Lord's devotees.
santee jeetaa janam apaar.
The Saints are victorious in this priceless human life.
har sant karay so-ee parvaan.
Whatever the Lord's Saint does, is approved and accepted.
naanak daas taa kai kurbaan. ||4||11||22||
Slave Nanak is a sacrifice to him. ||4||11||22||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

For those who love the One, the Naam is the anchor that holds them steady.

The saints win this priceless human life.

Whatever a saint of the One does is accepted.

Nanak says: I, a servant, give myself to them.

The Name is the anchor that keeps a life from drifting.
The deeper layer

Naam adhaar, the Naam as anchor, and jeetaa janam apaar: this priceless life is won not by conquest but by devotion. Kurbaan, offering oneself, is the language of love, not fear.

A Question to Sit With

What is an “anchor” that keeps you steady when things get rough?
