Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Listen, Creator, Master of the world, Keeper of all,

always kind, gentle with the humble.

When You set someone free, their ties come loose.

Nanak prays: the world is blind. Forgive us, and bring us close to You.

Freedom comes as a gift of kindness, not a reward earned.
The deeper layer

Warning turns into prayer: deen da-i-aal, merciful to the humble, sadaa kirpaal, forever kind. The plea for the "blind world" asks forgiveness for everyone; it is not a verdict on anyone.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone gentle with people who are struggling? What do they do?
